The disinfection task is an essential step in modern water treatment. More and more, UV radiation is used in this context as safe, chemical-free and reliable means of disinfection. Large research projects and a number of plants running free of disturbances prove the safety and reliability of UV disinfection in most variable applications.

Especially UV C radiation with a wave length of 240 to 280 nm attacks directly the vital DNA of the germs. The radiation initiates a photochemical reaction and destroys the genetic information contained in the DNA. The germ looses its capability of reproduction and is killed. Even parasites as Cryptosporidies or Giardia will be reduced efficiently.

The release of photochemical reactions is also used in other applications. Thus, in swimming pool water the unwanted compound Chlorine is reduced by UV radiation thus saving enormous amounts of fresh water. Oxidants such as Ozone, Chlorine or Chlorine Dioxide are degraded reliably in production waters of food and pharmaceutical industries, saving cost intensive activated carbon filters.

The advantages of UV treatment are multiple ones:
